Welcome to the Course

Welcome

Welcome to the Creating Accessible Materials course! My name is Patti Bahr, and I’m one of the instructors for this course. This course was developed in the Fall of 2019 by a team of professionals from the Education Technology Center, Instructional Technology Services (ITS), University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, and others. The purpose is to teach you how to create accessible documents, PDFs, presentations, and videos, as well as to evaluate website accessibility. In this course, you will learn to make your instruction and digital content more welcoming for people with disabilities and learning differences.

In the Spring of 2020, I partnered with Brianna Lewin from the Easterseals Iowa Assistive Technology Program Links to an external site. and TM Weissenberger from ITS to modify the course for a broader audience. This course version is self-paced and all assignments and activities are for your learning only. We hope that you will give us feedback as to how we can enhance the learning experience. Please do not hesitate to let us know of any broken links or other issues with the course.

Patti

Please note:

All assignments and activities are for your learning purposes only. This is a self-paced version of the course, which does not include submission, grading or instructor feedback. With each module assignment, there are demonstration videos that will help to show you how to correct any accessibility errors. These videos can be used after your practice or during, whichever is best for your learning.

Each module includes an assessment - these are required sections of each module and we ask that you take the time to assess and provide feedback for any module you review. We deeply value your feedback and want to be aware of any ways in which we can improve this course. Thank you!

New Course:

In Fall of 2024, Easterseals Iowa Assistive Technology Program created a condensed introduction course called Digital Access for Everyone Links to an external site..
